The head of US Customs and Border Protection identified “deficiencies” in the Biden administration’s funding proposal for next fiscal year, the latest wrinkle in a complicated appropriations cycle for the Department of Homeland Security.
House lawmakers on Wednesday pressed acting Commissioner Troy Miller on whether the administration’s request of more than $19 billion for CBP adequately funds border technology, including surveillance towers.
“I recognize the structural deficiencies in the 2024 budget, due to timing and some other administrative concerns,” Miller said, adding that he looked forward to working with lawmakers to correct the problems.
