Border Protection Suicides Underscore Prevention Gaps, GAO Says

US Customs and Border Protection accounted for the overwhelming majority of the 99 suicides reported among law enforcement officers across the Homeland Security Department over the past decade, according to a government watchdog.

A Government Accountability Office report released Thursday tracked data from fiscal years 2016 through 2025 and found gaps in the department’s ability to track suicide trends and assess prevention despite its efforts to improve these practices.
