Brain-Tracking Devices Force States to Bolster Privacy Laws

Consumer gadgets that track brain activity, such as headbands promising better sleep, are facing increased scrutiny by state lawmakers aiming to protect neural data.

Montana is the latest state to advance a measure (S.B. 163) that would give residents more control over information related to their brain and nervous system. The bill lawmakers sent to Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) on April 3 follows neural data laws enacted last year in Colorado and California.
