Business Groups, Advocates Spar Over NY Health Data Privacy Bill

New York lawmakers approved a ban on the sale of sensitive health data to third parties last week that Democratic sponsors say provides a bulwark against the federal government and Big Tech.

Whether Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) sides with them remains to be seen. She vetoed a version of the measure last year, citing concerns it would be overly prohibitive for businesses that handle health information. The measure (S 9269) was one of hundreds lawmakers approved before June 5, the end of the legislative session.
