A broad range of companies from wellness apps to stores that sell pain relievers could be swept up in new state data privacy measures that seek to protect consumer health information, according to attorneys.
Advertisers lobbied against a Virginia law (S.B. 754) that kicks in July 1 and will limit how businesses collect and use reproductive and sexual health information. And in New York, industries are pushing Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) to veto or restrict a measure (S.B. 929) passed by the Legislature in January that they argue would be the nation’s strictest health data law.
