California Republican Rep. Kevin Kiley said Monday will run for reelection in a Democratic-leaning Sacramento-area district after voters approved a new congressional map last year that has pushed GOP House members in the state into fewer safe seats.
Kiley announced his entrance into the race for California’s redrawn 6th Congressional District after spending weeks publicly whittling down his options for pursuing reelection.
The congressman said in February he had narrowed his choices to either taking on the Sacramento-area district’s sprawling field of Democratic candidates or challenging fellow Republican Rep. Tom McClintock in a neighboring seat.
