Legislation to regulate how employers use artificial intelligence to make workplace decisions was vetoed Monday by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
The “No Robo Bosses Act” (SB 7) authored by state Sen. Jerry McNerney (D) would have prevented businesses from relying solely on automated systems to discipline or fire workers, instead mandating human input for such actions. Companies would also have been prohibited from using the technology for purposes like disciplining workers for unionizing, or for inferring their religion or other protected characteristic.
