California Lawmakers Want New Rules to Limit Gambling by Minors

California lawmakers are pushing to block sports betting websites and prediction markets from advertising in ways that reach minors.

Legislators unveiled a bill (AB 2617) Monday that would bar such websites from marketing to Californians under age 18, including through paid advertising and online influencers.

The measure, authored by Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo (D), would also require betting platforms and prediction markets to take steps to verify the ages of their users.
