California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday called for a special legislative session beginning Dec. 2 to bolster state policies that could be targets of Republican President-elect Donald Trump during a second term.
Newsom, a Democrat, said in a proclamation that the consequences of another Trump term on California’s policies regarding the environment, immigration, and abortion “may be significant and immediate.”
The governor called for lawmakers to provide additional funding for the state attorney general and other agencies to challenge Trump administration actions in court and defend state policies.
