California regulators should consider capping the maximum amount of revenue some hospitals receive to drive down their high inpatient costs, according to a state-commissioned study released Wednesday.
The California Office of Health Care Affordability approved the study last year probing hospital costs in Monterey County, where regulators say the local facilities have the most expensive hospitalization charges in the state. The report outlined three options for addressing high hospital prices, including allowing the state to set a maximum amount of revenue that certain facilities could receive annually.
