California Will Allow Sale of Gasoline Containing More Ethanol

California gas stations can sell fuel containing up to 15% ethanol under legislation Gov. Gavin Newsom approved Thursday.

The state has allowed the sale of gasoline with only up to 10% ethanol amid concerns that a higher percentage would worsen air quality during the summer in California cities that have long grappled with smog.

The change to what’s known as E15 comes as Newsom and the state legislature, led by a Democratic supermajority, look to lower gas prices that consistently rank as the highest in the US and that Republican lawmakers argue will continue to climb under California’s energy policies. ...
