Carter to Seek House Health Gavel, Will Support Guthrie as Chair

Rep. Buddy Carter, who was seen as a possible contender to lead the Energy and Commerce Committee next year, will instead seek a Health Subcommittee gavel, his staff confirmed.

Carter (R-Ga.) is throwing his support behind Rep. Brett Guthrie (Ky.), the current health panel leader, to helm the full committee in the 119th Congress. Guthrie will face off against Rep. Bob Latta (Ohio), with National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Richard Hudson (N.C.) seen as a possible contender.

The Energy and Commerce chair or ranking member position will be among multiple coveted GOP policymaking spots next year.
