Centrist Republican to Try Forcing House Vote on Russia Sanctions

House Republican leaders will have yet another vote-forcing effort to contend with when their members return from Thanksgiving, with centrist Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) planning a discharge petition on Russia sanctions.

The Pennsylvania Republican said on X that he “notified both the Clerk of the House and House leadership of our discharge petition to force a vote on crushing Russian sanctions immediately upon our return.” The procedural tool allows rank-and-file lawmakers to force votes by getting 218 signatures on a petition.
