The Trump administration is poised to continue disbursing semiconductor grants, enforcing export controls and other critical technology and telecommunications programs despite a government funding lapse that will furlough tens of thousands of workers.
Most employees at the Commerce Department and the Federal Communications Commission, key agencies responsible for the White House’s tech and telecom agendas, will be furloughed, according to the latest government contingency plans. Approximately 81% of Commerce employees and 88% of FCC employees will be sent home without pay. That translates to roughly 34,711 and 1,305 workers, respectively.
