Congress must mitigate the effects of future government shutdowns by passing legislation to cover critical services at the Federal Aviation Administration, industry representatives said Wednesday at a Senate hearing.
Pending legislation (S. 1045) would ensure pay for air traffic controllers as well as FAA staff who oversee regulatory compliance in future shutdowns. The National Air Traffic Controllers Association, General Aviation Manufacturers Association, and Airlines for America backed the bill at a Senate Commerce Committee hearing focused on the effects of shutdowns.
