The US Congress appears poised to avoid another government shutdown later this month by passing compromise bills that would soften spending cuts sought by the Trump administration, according to Republicans and Democrats involved in the process.

That would prevent a repeat of the 2025 government shutdown which disrupted government services and data for a record 43 days.
