Congressional negotiators reached a high-level deal on spending figures, easing the path to a government-funding deal ahead of deadlines on Jan. 19 and Feb. 2, key lawmakers said Sunday.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) touted $16.1 billion in additional clawbacks of old funds in a letter to colleagues yesterday. That includes a $10 billion increase—now totaling $20 billion— in Internal Revenue Service rescissions in fiscal 2024 and $6 billion in other rescinded funds from Covid-era laws, according to the letter.
