Congress, Trump Float Tougher Limits on China Buying US Land

Republicans are teeing up legislation designed to limit China’s ownership of US farmland and increase federal scrutiny of land purchases by other countries deemed foreign adversaries, according to legislative text.

Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.) is expected to reintroduce the pair of bills Tuesday after neither was signed into law during the 118th Congress. One would add the Agriculture Department to the Committee on Foreign Investments in the US, which reviews transactions for national security implications, the legislative text, obtained by Bloomberg Government, shows. The other bill would ban China from buying land adjacent to federal real estate.
