Businesses that use AI tools as designed would escape liability if the technology leads to discrimination, under a new bill to be introduced in Connecticut.
Companies that use off-the-shelf AI tools would not have to ensure those systems do not result in biased decision-making—as long as the developers of the tools had conducted their own evaluations—under a bill state Sen. James Maroney (D) aims to unveil this month. His bill last session (S.B. 2), which stalled just prior to adjournment, would have exempted only businesses with fewer than 50 full-time employees from liability.
