A serious primary challenge to Texas Republican John Cornyn is “unfortunate” and could jeopardize the party’s control of his Senate seat next year, according to a senior House Republican who’s a longtime ally of the four-term senator.
“It’s going to be a really brutal, expensive primary” between Cornyn and Texas attorney general Ken Paxton, a more combative and controversial Republican, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) said at an exclusive Bloomberg Government roundtable Tuesday.
