Democrat Wins Miami Mayoralty, Shaking Trump’s State Control (1)

Eileen Higgins won Miami’s mayoral runoff, becoming the first Democrat in almost three decades to lead the city.

Higgins beat Republican Emilio Gonzalez by 19 percentage points, according to the official vote tally, with a voter turnout of about 21%.

“Tonight, the people of Miami made history,” Higgins said in a statement on Tuesday evening. “Together, we turned the page on years of chaos and corruption and opened the door to a new era for our city.”
