Democrats Block Trump’s Nominee Package Using Procedural Tactic

Democrats blocked Republican efforts to advance through the Senate a massive package of President Donald Trump’s nominees, using a procedural maneuver.

Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) objected on the floor Thursday to a procedural vote on a package of more than 80 of Trump’s nominees because the list included Sara Bailey, who is tapped to be the director of National Drug Control Policy—a higher level nomination ineligible under new rules. The move is a flex from Democrats who have been unable to stop Trump’s massive package of nominees since the threshold was lowered for their consideration.
