Democrats Favored to Keep Texas House Seat After Turner’s Death

A Democrat is likely to succeed ex-Rep. Sylvester Turner (D-Texas), who died Tuesday after serving two months in Congress.

Gov. Greg Abbott (R) will schedule a special election in Texas’s 18th District, a Democratic bastion in Houston. All candidates of all parties will run on a single ballot. If no one wins a majority of all votes, a runoff will be held between the top two finishers, regardless of party affiliation.
