House Democrats proposed legislation ending President Donald Trump’s emergency tariff powers and sending farmers about $17 billion in one-time payments.
New farm payments would prioritize producers who didn’t benefit from a $12 billion aid package the Trump administration rolled out in December, including specialty crop and sugar beet growers, according to a one-page summary of the bill introduced Thursday.
The bill also would delay by several years new costs states are expected to shoulder for administering the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program under changes made in last year’s Republican tax-and-spending law (Public Law 119-21). A bill summary released by top House ...
