Democrats Seek GOP Allies Against Trump Transit Cuts in Chicago

Illinois Democrats are attempting to foment bipartisan opposition to Trump administration funding cuts to Democratic cities including Chicago, where the White House threatened to block $2.1 billion for transit projects Friday.

Rep. Danny Davis (D-Ill.), whose district includes western areas of the city, said he hopes Republican colleagues will press the president to abandon his funding threat to the Windy City considering people from both parties depend on its transit system.

“They’re not Republicans or Democrats,” he said. “They’re just people who need public transportation to get to and fro wherever they want to go.”
