Democrats Send White House New Counteroffer on DHS Funding (1)

Democrats sent the White House another counteroffer for funding the Department of Homeland Security late Monday night, but it didn’t change much, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said Tuesday.

Democrats and the White House have been trading offers but haven’t made much progress toward ending the shutdown that has stretched on for more than a month. The two sides are locked in a disagreement over immigration enforcement changes.

The issue will simmer in the background as the Senate holds an extended debate this week over voter ID legislation.
