DeSpain Wins Republican Primary for Oregon House Seat (Correct)

May 22, 2024, 12:03 PM UTC

Monique DeSpain won the Republican primary in Oregon’s 4th Congressional District, AP projected.

DeSpain, an Air Force veteran, had endorsements from House Speaker Mike Johnson and Representative Cliff Bentz, a Republican who represents another district in Oregon.

DeSpain will face one-term incumbent Democrat Val Hoyle in the general election. Hoyle won just over 50% of the vote in the 2022 general election and the GOP is looking to flip the seat.

(Corrects description of Representative Cliff Bentz in the second paragraph.)
