DHS Shutdown Dragging on Threatens Upcoming Senate Recess (1)

The Senate could cancel its next recess if the Department of Homeland Security is still shut down, Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said Thursday.

“It needs to get resolved by the end of next week,” Thune told reporters. “I can’t see us taking a break with the government still shut down.”

The Senate is set to go on recess for two weeks after next Friday. Democrats and the White House have been trading offers, but haven’t made much progress toward ending the shutdown that has stretched on for more than a month.
