DHS Shutdown Approaching as Talks Stall
A shutdown for the Department of Homeland Security looks far more likely than not with senators slated to leave Washington as soon as today without passing a funding patch.
There’s little appetite among Democrats to pass another continuing resolution to keep the department running without changes to immigration enforcement policy. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) shut the door yesterday to status quo funding. Without Schumer’s backing, it’ll be a heavy lift for enough Senate Democrats to vote for a stopgap.
