President Donald Trump’s proposal to levy fees of up to $1.5 million against Chinese ocean carriers endangers a host of agricultural export markets, key farm industry groups are warning US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
Trade actions proposed by Greer’s office, designed to bolster the US shipping industry while China produces more than half the world’s commercial ships, could raise consumer prices and the cost of shipping goods abroad, according to letters from produce distributor Dole PLC and industry groups including American Soybean Association, North American Export Grain Association, and Agriculture Transportation Coalition.
