Education Department, impeachment on post-recess agenda

Congressional Republicans are likely to face new pushes next week to take action on priorities of President Donald Trump that may lack political support — abolishing the Education Department and impeaching a federal judge.

Republicans have long hammered the Education Department, created by a 1979 law, to push for a wholly state-led approach to education.

However, passing a law to close it would require many swing-district GOP lawmakers in the House to take a politically risky position.
