Energy Department Report Suggests Misused Funding, GAO Says

The Energy Department may have violated the law by not allocating funding from Congress in the way that lawmakers directed, according to a Thursday Government Accountability Office report.

The government watchdog found discrepancies between what the Energy Department listed as the enacted funding for certain accounts in its fiscal year 2025 budget justification and what Congress allocated for those accounts in its explanatory appropriations statement. The numbers are supposed to align.
