Energy Permitting, Speedy Environmental Reviews Advance in House

Bipartisan legislation that would streamline the environmental review process for all energy projects advanced out of a House committee Thursday, teeing up a potential floor vote before the end of the year.

The bill (H.R. 4776) would speed up agency reviews and limit litigation-related timelines under the National Environmental Policy Act, a key law in the federal permitting process.

Committee members voted 25-18 to approve the bill. Rep. Jared Golden (Maine), a cosponsor, and Rep. Adam Gray (Calif.) were the only Democrats to support it.
