EPA Climate Rollback Counts Savings and Downplays Expenses

The Trump administration says its latest climate rollback — delaying the phasedown of highly polluting greenhouse gases used in refrigeration — will save Americans millions of dollars on groceries. Its own economic analysis for the final rule tells a different story.

The US Environmental Protection Agency estimates the new rule may save companies as much as $976 million between 2026 and 2050, with most of those savings going to supermarkets that now have more time to install refrigeration systems that use less polluting chemicals.
