Ethics Panel Weighs Cherfilus-McCormick Allegations in Hearing

The House Ethics Committee will decide whether there’s convincing evidence Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.) violated chamber rules after a rare and lengthy public hearing Thursday in which members of both parties challenged the congresswoman.

Cherfilus-McCormick is accused of accepting campaign contributions linked to an official action, among other allegations. She was federally indicted last year on multiple charges, and an attorney entered a plea of “not guilty” on her behalf last month ahead of a trial scheduled for later this year.
