Ex-MLB Star Mark Teixeira Launches Bid for Texas Congress Seat

Former Major League Baseball star Mark Teixeira is running for US Congress.

A three-time All-Star who won the 2009 World Series with the New York Yankees, Teixeira announced he’ll seek the Republican nomination in Texas’ 21st Congressional District, which stretches north from San Antonio. The 45-year-old is aiming to succeed Rep. Chip Roy, who’s running for Texas attorney general.

“As a proud Texan and lifelong conservative who loves our country, I’m ready to fight for the principles that make Texas strong and America exceptional,” Teixeira said in a statement.
