FAA Nominee Leaves Door Open to Pilot Rule Training Changes (1)

President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Federal Aviation Admnistration declined to commit to keeping a 1,500-hour training requirement for pilots at a congressional hearing on Wednesday.

Airline executive Bryan Bedford told lawmakers he supports structured training programs but didn’t say whether he’d maintain the rule at a confirmation hearing with the Senate Commerce Committee. The chief executive officer of Republic Airways Holdings Inc. has criticizedthe requirement in the past.

FAA rules require pilots to have at least 1,500 flight hours before they can fly for a commercial airline, except in certain circumstances.
