Facial Recognition at U.S. Borders Questioned on Opt-Out Clarity

Americans are entitled to more transparency about the ability to bypass facial recognition technology at airports and other locations, two lawmakers told U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) sent a letter Monday to newly installed Commissioner Chris Magnus, demanding that CBP inform U.S. citizens more clearly that they’re allowed to opt out of biometric facial recognition technology going through customs at airports, seaports, and land borders.
