Farm Bill Markup Supercharges Pesticide, Livestock Law Fights

Contentious changes to pesticide and livestock regulations proposed by the first farm bill House lawmakers have seen in two years threaten to bog down congressional consideration of the package beginning Tuesday.

House Agriculture Committee members will debate and amend legislation covering a host of conservation, rural development, crop support, and food programs as Congress has repeatedly failed to reauthorize a farm bill since 2023. House Agriculture Chair GT Thompson (R-Pa.), has blamed the delays on political gridlock and is pushing to complete the package before some provisions expire Sept. 30.
