House Republicans aim to restore the Federal Communications Commission’s ability to sell bits of spectrum as part of their larger budget bill—a move they say would raise billions of dollars to offset tax cuts sought by President Donald Trump.
The bill, unveiled Sunday evening, would direct the FCC to identify and auction spectrum “on an exclusive, licensed basis” for mobile and fixed broadband services, or a combination thereof, according to the text. It would also direct the Commerce Department to deploy artificial intelligence and other automated tools to modernize and secure federal information technology systems.
