FCC’s Kimmel Threat to Surface at Cruz-Led Censorship Hearing

Lawmakers are expected to air concerns about government censorship at a Senate hearing Wednesday following bipartisan criticism of President Donald Trump’s Federal Communications Commission.

Senate Commerce Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a staunch free speech defender, will hold the hearing weeks after FCC Chair Brendan Carr hurled threats at TV broadcasters over talk-show comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s comments about the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Some Republicans like Cruz broke ranks with their party and joined Democrats in decrying Carr’s actions as the government overstepping its authority and undermining First Amendment protections.
