Federal Building Fossil Fuel Phase-Out Bill Passed by House

The House Wednesday passed in a 215-202 vote a bill that would scrap certain energy efficiency standards for federal buildings.

Sponsored by Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.), the Reliable Federal Infrastructure Act (H.R. 4690) repeals a section that requires new and newly renovation federal buildings to phase out the use of fossil fuels on site. The bill also prevents indirect or direct fossil fuel consumption from affecting a building’s certification as a green or high-performance green building.
