Federal Health Workers Get Layoff Notices as Trump Cuts Staff

Health department employees received reduction-in-force notices the administration confirmed Friday as President Donald Trump made good on threats to reduce the federal workforce in retaliation for congressional Democrats withholding votes to fund the government.

Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought announced on the social media platform X that the “RIFS have begun.” Soon after, Health and Human Services Department spokesperson Andrew Nixon said HHS employees across multiple divisions received RIF notices because of the government shutdown.
