Fired Agency Watchdogs Reaped Billions in Savings, Democrats Say

President Donald Trump’s firing of top government watchdogs jeopardizes billions of dollars in savings and financial recoveries by their offices, Democratic lawmakers say.

Democrats on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee released a report Wednesday analyzing the value of inspectors general and accusing Trump of contributing to government fraud, waste, and abuse by dismissing 19 of the independent oversight officials shortly after taking office.

The report is the latest effort by congressional Democrats to paint Trump as hypocritical in his efforts to overhaul government agencies.
