Former two-term Houston mayor Sylvester Turner is among a lineup of local politicians seeking to compete for the House seat held by Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who died last month.
Others who have said they intend to run in the heavily Democratic district are Amanda Edwards, who unsuccessfully challenged Jackson Lee in the March primary, and Houston City Council member Letitia Plummer. The influx of campaign announcements followed Jackson Lee’s funeral Thursday, where Vice President Kamala Harris delivered the eulogy.
