Former lawmakers legally donated hundreds of thousands in leftover political funds to congressional candidates and political committees this election cycle, as they embarked onlobbying careers, an exclusive Bloomberg Government analysis found.
The review also found lawmakers leaving at the end of this Congress still have millions in unspent campaign funds that they can later donate to preferred candidates and causes.
The practice is hardly rare as federal law allows lawmakers to exit Capitol Hill with unspent campaign and PAC money and places few restrictions on how they can use it.
