Former Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown Seeks 2026 Comeback

Former Sen. Sherrod Brown, an Ohio Democrat defeated for re-election last November, will seek the state’s other Senate seat in the 2026 election.

Brown plans to challenge Sen. Jon Husted (R), according to a union official with knowledge of the Democrat’s decision. Husted was appointed earlier this year to the seat formerly held by Vice President JD Vance.

Brown, 72, is an ally of labor unions who formerly led the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. He gained a reputation as a left-leaning progressive with a fervent populist streak, defying Ohio’s rightward shift by connecting with working-class voters ...
