Game App Firm Pays $1.4 Million for California Privacy Violation

Mobile gaming app company Jam City Inc. has agreed to pay $1.4 million in civil penalties for allegedly failing to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act, state Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Friday.

The settlement is the second-largest fine secured by the attorney general under the state’s comprehensive privacy law after a $1.55 million settlement with health information website Healthline Media in July.

Jam City, which creates app-based games based on popular franchises like Harry Potter and “Frozen,” did not offer consumers a method to block the sale or sharing of their data on its apps, Bonta alleged. Jam ...
