Google Taps Senate GOP Aide to Run US, Canada Government Affairs

Google is bringing on John Connell, chief of staff to Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.), to lead the tech giant’s government affairs and public policy for the US and Canada, the company said Friday.

Connell will lead the company’s work with national, state and local governments, and advocacy groups. He joins at a pivotal time for the technology sector’s influence in Washington, as lawmakers and the Trump administration eye regulations for artificial intelligence and legislation to protect children’s privacy and safety online.
