GOP Health Chair Carter Says Will Step Down Amid Senate Run

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) is stepping down from chairing the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, according to an announcement from his office Wednesday.

The move comes as the Georgia congressman is making a bid for the Senate.

Carter, a former pharmacist, said in a statement that he is leaving to give his undivided attention to Georgia. While Carter’s tenure in the position has been short, he helped oversee the crafting of the GOP reconciliation bill (H.R. 1) and has pushed for reforms over pharmacy benefit manager regulations.
